Course Description:
This course is designed to familiarize students with various perspectives regarding e-commerce. It is intended to give students important knowledge about E-commerce including its meaning, application and current trends. In addition, students will learn how to build a commercial website with different approaches. In fact, students will be asked to run the websites as if it were a functional commercial one. In other words, the instructor will approach the topic through theoretical and practical ways. At the end of the course, students should be able to build and manage a commercial website with adequate knowledge of the commercial, marketing, security, legal and infrastructure issues involved. To achieve the stated goals above, the instructor therefore divides this course into the following five sections.
1. General E-commerce Knowledge and Business Plan
2. Web design: Strategy and planning
3. Web site implementation
Hardware
Software
4. E-Marketing
5. General E-Finance topics
Requirements:
Participation (15%)
Students are expected to come to class
well-prepared to participate in a discussion of all the required readings for
that class. Each student is expected to be able to summarize the main ideas of
the assigned readings and to discuss the readings from various perspectives.
The instructor will also pop questions to students who are supposed to be able
to make sensible answers.
Business Plan (20%)
A sound business plan lays the foundation for a successful e-business. Without business-planning knowledge, one just can not create a solid business model. The focus of E-Commerce is about business instead of technology; therefore, developing business ideas suitable for on-line operation is the first and crucial step for any successful e-business. Hence, students will be expected to develop a feasible business plan with an effective structure and format.
Website Plan: (15%)
This website plan acts as the supporting tool for the business plan. This written exam will test students¡¦ understanding of basic E-commerce concepts.
Group Website project: (30%)
At the end of the
semester, students should be able to building a running website simulating a
real commercial site providing competitive products or services.
Group presentation: (20%)
Team working plays a critical part to
the success of modern professionals. In order to give students enough
experiences of working with others, many tasks in the classes will be performed
in a group fashion. Performance will be evaluated based on the final results
and the team working quality of every group.
