Teaching Objectives
This course is in English teaching and speaking and based on project oriented design. Therefore, English proficiency is required, so please think it over before you make the decision of enrollment. Culture Theories Research is a qualitative basis for the pratical design training incorporates in design research theoriess, to explore and introduce qualitative research in the design of a wide range of cultural theories and cultural studies as a touchstone.

Weekly in-depth study on the pratical and theories of culture, so each student in our class must completed their pre-study of Design projects executing together with reading materials prior entering to our class. Students require participating in the class discussion and design projects. This course of Culture Theories Research is a study of the relationship between theory and practice, the relationship between the individual and the collective. A study of different cultures and reading cultures through a variety of research themes, in hope to explore the depth and meaning of many cultural theories.

Designing own cultural topics. Linking self project into an in-depth cultural research and exploration. Study on the practical application and qualitative research of design culture.Through the discussions of cultural topics, Culture Theories Research is for designing Taiwan's cultural relevance and enhancing our cultural industries. Culture Theories Research is the 101 of the qualitative research and a new departure of the quest for Taiwan's new cultural identity.

The teaching of this course is mainly aimed at exploring the relationship between design projects and culture, and how cultural change affected in design field. We will explore how to applied culture issues to strengthen the local cultural design pratices and discourses.

Evaluation methods
Student’s theme of final report must discuss with the teacher before writing. The theme of the final report could reflect to their master or PhD research. Approximately 2000-3000 words in English is recommended in final report. Students must be integrated into the curriculum of theory, and able to question and reflect to the real life. Students could choose either design a cultural theory-based report or a Taiwan-related issue to do their research.
Weekly information on pre-classroom personal reading and in class discussion participation accounted for 40 % of students’ study performance, learning attitude and enthusiasm to participate in the class accounted for 30%. Final report and innovation of their final research project accounted for 30%.
