課程簡介
Course Introduction
This course is one of core theory in computational design—generation. Generation as its similarity with design process is always one of favorable research directions. Starting from automatic generated design to generative painting, generative design systems represent a computational way to incorporate design with power of computational theories such as Genetic Algorithms or knowledge-based systems.

Since generation is an interactive metaphor that provides incremental strategies for integrating computational theory and design behaviors, the analysis and mapping between two different domains is the core of generative design systems. Different theories have different methodology towards this problem. In addition, the interactive mechanism for generation starts to evolve recently thanks to the new media technology occurred nowadays.

In this course, we examine two main groups of researches—design space exploration and generative design/art in addition to a more modern computational theory—distributed technology and machine learning.

What you should know

Evaluation methods
This course is divided into three parts: (4 weeks for design models, 3 weeks for autonomous generation, and 3 weeks for Design Space Exploration. discussion and argument of individual project) Details are shown in the weekly schedule.
Readings are assigned every week. One-page reports and discussion topics will be handed in the following week. In addition, one term project with a 4-pages paper will be handed in as the final project.
