教學目標
Teaching Objectives
This course aims to cultivate students with the following abilities: 1) to identify a worthy topic related to various thoughts on design and find out its relevant literature for further investigation; 2) to study the content of the literature on hand and make a full comprehension; 3) to extract as much as possible the useful information in the study for later applications; 4) to raise questions related to the topic and search for their appropriate answers by the student him-/herself; 5) to apply the knowledge and experience gained throughout the study of the topic to his/ her further research and design developments.

Topics to be discussed in this semester will be focused on: “Designing For Society”. A same titled book by Nigel Whiteley will be used as textbook for thorough reading and discussion. Main topics in the book are: consumer-led design, green design, responsible design and ethical consuming, feminist perspectives, the way forward? Further materials will be gathered by students and shared with the class during the semester.

Evaluation methods
40% Presentation and Discussion (incl. technique, preparation, contribution, etc.)

40% Final Report & Presentation (completeness of research, view point, supplementary information, etc.)

20% General Evaluation (incl. class participation, learning attitude, etc.)

* All marks are made in relative points to be scaled to the proportion indicated above, and then adjusted accordingly to a range between around 60 and 90.
