隨著春末夏初的到來，校園荷花池正迎來一場生命交替的重要儀式。每年的 4月至6月（部分紀錄早至3月開始），是台灣原生「斑龜」（長尾龜）媽媽們的產卵季。
為了給蛋寶寶找一個安全、柔軟的沙地挖洞產卵，斑龜媽媽常需忍受體力劇耗上岸尋覓，甚至得冒險穿越馬路，面臨可怕的路殺危險。為了守護這群無聲的住民，校園「斑龜媽媽產卵季保護計畫」正式啟動！
為了讓斑龜媽媽在校內就能平安生產，我們特別進行了以下棲地優化工程：
湖心島「超級砂灘」： 我們在湖心島鋪設了厚度達 40-60公分 的極細砂層。這片柔軟的砂地是媽媽們挖洞產卵的最愛，每窩約可產下 7-15 顆卵，讓生命在島上安全孕育。
友善爬行緩坡： 考慮到產卵期媽媽體重較大，我們設置了角度 小於20度 的寬敞粗糙面緩坡，並在水中設置「休息支點」，讓媽媽上岸不再困難重重。
守護競爭優勢 (SDG 15.8)： 未來我們將移除池內的外來種巴西龜（紅耳龜），釋放更多陽光曬背點與食物資源給原生的斑龜媽媽。
在 4-6 月的關鍵期，邀請您與我們共同遵守以下守則：
保持安靜： 若在池畔看見斑龜媽媽上岸，請降低音量、放慢腳步，您的安靜是給媽媽最好的鼓勵。
不干擾、不捕捉： 產卵過程極為脆弱，請遠距離觀察，切勿觸摸或捕捉。
拒絕棄養： 棄養寵物是生態失衡的主因，讓我們共同維護原生種的生存空間。

Greetings to all!
As spring gracefully yields to early summer, our campus lotus pond embarks upon a profound ritual of life's renewal. Each year, from April through June (with some records beginning as early as March), the native Taiwanese "Spotted Turtles" (long-tailed turtles) commence their nesting season.
In their quest to find a secure and supple sandy terrain to excavate nests and lay their eggs, these devoted mother turtles endure great physical exertion, often venturing ashore and even risking perilous crossings of roadways, confronting the grave threat of vehicular harm. To safeguard these silent inhabitants, the campus has officially launched the "Mother Spotted Turtle Nesting Season Protection Initiative"!
To ensure the mother turtles can safely nest within our grounds, we have undertaken the following habitat enhancement projects:
The Heart-Island "Super Sandy Beach": We have laid an exceptionally fine sand layer, measuring 40-60 centimeters thick, upon the heart island. This soft sandy expanse is the favored nesting site for the mothers, each clutch yielding approximately 7-15 eggs, nurturing new life safely upon the island.
Gentle Crawling Slopes: Considering the increased weight of the mothers during nesting, we have constructed broad, textured gentle slopes with an incline of less than 20 degrees, complemented by "resting points" in the water, facilitating an easier ascent onto land.
Preserving Competitive Advantage (SDG 15.8): In the future, we will remove invasive Brazilian turtles (red-eared sliders) from the pond, thereby liberating more basking spots and food resources for our native mother spotted turtles.
During the critical period from April to June, we invite you to join us in adhering to the following principles:
Maintain Silence: Should you witness a mother spotted turtle emerging ashore by the pond, please lower your voice and slow your pace. Your quietude is the greatest encouragement you can offer her.
Refrain from Disturbance and Capture: The nesting process is exceedingly delicate; please observe from a distance and abstain from touching or capturing the turtles.
Reject Abandonment: The abandonment of pets is a principal cause of ecological imbalance. Let us collectively preserve the habitat of our native species.
